Dining Room Tour (2024)

After having the same dining room table for twenty years, we just got a new one and I thought it might be fun to give you a dining room tour of the updated space! I have a very eclectic style, mixing old with new and DIY with storebought, and this space is no exception.

The key piece in our dining room is this beautiful new table from Nebraska Furniture Mart. Our old table was much more of a rustic style and I’m loving the simplicity of our new table. I went back and forth on whether I wanted dark wood but I love the bold look of it and feel like it’s a real statement in the room, providing a central spot. This table is also huge! It seats eight in its current state and has two leaves that can add additional seating. I can’t wait to host the next holiday and not have to configure as many tables as I usually do!

I softened the dark wood and added some texture and color with a couple of throw cushions. Pillows are such an easy way to add a cozy feeling to a space and I love the way you can bring in instant color without spending a lot.

I also added a new centerpiece. The table is so long and I wanted to break that up a bit. This chicken feeder has such a fabulous vintage style but it’s actually brand new. I was so impressed with the vintage style of a lot of the decorative decor at Nebraska Furniture Mart. I could have added something new to every room in our house and I told my family I’ll be asking for gift cards for my next birthday!

I filled the trough with a mixture of candles in varying shapes and sizes. Want a cheap little decorating tip? Instead of buying votive holders, buy cheap clear glasses in various sizes. You can buy setsor even hit up a thrift store or dollar store to mix and match. Fill them with candles in different heights and sizes and you have a really fun and affordable centerpiece.

The other details in our dining room have stayed mostly the same. Vintage letters, my old window, and the mirror I dug out of someone’s trash pile are all in their same spots. Some things are just too good to alter {wink}.

I haven’t added anything new to my eclectic plate wall …

… and my cross-stitched chair and painted dresser {another trash to treasure} are still two of my favorite pieces in the room.

I love the updates in this roomand have a few plans for the future as well. Concrete floors, possibly a new fixture, and maybe a DIY plate rack are all things I’m thinking about.
