Winter is here, which means it's time to pull out your warm slippers, but if they look too ragged to wear, it's about time for a new pair. If you're on the fence, trust us — sliding your feet into a pair of cozy slippers on a cold morning or after kicking off your work shoes is an amazing feeling that's worth the plunge.
Finding a great pair of slippers can go a long way in keeping your feet comfortable. Fuzzy socks are a great option for providing much-needed warmth, but they aren't as supportive, or even protective, as a good pair of slippers. Walking around on hardwood or tile floors all day, without any helpful shock absorption from your footwear, can lead to achy joints and sore feet. A good pair of slippers can help mitigate that while keeping you warm and cozy.
The Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab regularly tests footwear, like hiking shoes, walking shoes (like Allbirds sneakers) and winter boots to find the most durable and comfortable shoes available. Our Lab analysts and product experts evaluate aspects like fit, support, cushioning, overall comfort and more for each style in addition to verifying any specific brand claims, including those related to recovery or stain resistance. To find the best men's slippers, we researched dozens of options, focusing on material, comfort, ease of cleaning and more before evaluating a select few with consumer testers. The picks below are from top performers in our tests and favorites among GH staff.

3
Best Open-Heel Men's Slipper
UGG Leisure Scuff Slipper
Pros
- Comfortable quality materials
- Durable
Cons
- Only for indoor wear
Even though UGG is best known for its comfy boots, these men's Leisure Scuff Slippers use the same cozy materials: shearling lining, suede fabric and a cushioned footbed. Alec Scherma, GH's test engineer, has personally owned this pair for more than eight years. One tester even commented on how soft these felt on his feet, calling them softer than lounge socks. Just note that these cozy slippers are best for indoor use only, as contact with water may stain the suede.

Best Men's Suede Slipper
Hush Puppies Men's Dawson Slipper
Pros
- Resistant to water-based stains
- Comfortable bounce footbed
Cons
- Not as resistant to oil-based stains
If you've ruined your fair share of suede slippers by stepping in water or spilling food, this pair from Hush Puppies features the brand's stain-resistant suede, which our analysts tested in the Textiles Lab. In Lab evaluations, we found that water-based liquids like coffee and red wine beaded and rolled off the surface without staining. Testers gave this pair high scores for cushioning and support, with one described calling the supportive foam footbed "cloud-like." Plus, they have a thick rubber sole, so if your main concern is splashing through a puddle to get the paper or spilling your morning coffee, then these slippers are a great option.

Best Outdoor Men's Slipper
THE NORTH FACE Men's ThermoBall Traction Mule
Pros
- Good for outdoor use
- Lots of color and style options
Cons
- May run small for some users
These slippers from The North Face are like mini puffer coats for your feet and are lined with fuzzy, soft acrylic. According to the brand, they're water resistant, and their thick rubber sole provides traction for walking around outside. While you shouldn't wear them on a walk through the woods, they're great for a trudge outside to get that thing you forgot in the car last night. Bonus: They come in a ton of colors and styles. In our evaluations, this pair ran a bit small, with one size 8.5 tester finding a size 9 shoe a little tight, so consider sizing up.

Pros
- Designed for recovery
- Cooler than fur-lined slippers
Cons
- Expensive
If your toes tend to get too toasty, skip the fur-lined slippers and opt for a slide instead. They'll keep your feet cool while still providing that comfy feeling, and they're great for a quick errand in the warmer months. Oofos is known for its recovery slides — one of our testers said they "take the ease off my legs after running while I'm recovering." Another reported less knee pain since he's started wearing them. And if you still want the same cushioning feel with a more classic slipper-like look, the brand's OOcoozie Mule is perfect for colder weather.

How we choose the best men's slippers
To get a sense of what makes a good slipper, our Textiles, Paper and Apparel Lab pros weighed in with their years of experience to help find the best options. We combed online reviews of the most popular slippers on the market, considering material, style, support and durability before testing out a select number of contenders to find the best available. Our analysts then evaluated the construction of each before working with consumer testers to evaluate cushioning, support, fit, comfort and traction of each shoe. Our final list includes both top performers in our tests as well as popular brands with rave reviews.
What to look for when shopping for men's slippers
Slippers come down largely to personal preference, but there are a few differentiating factors to consider when shopping.
✔️ Materials: Slippers and slides come in a wide variety of materials. Here are some that you'll often encounter:
- Suede is a type of leather that has a soft surface and a napped finish. It's thinner and softer than leather or most woven textiles used in slippers, but that also makes it more vulnerable to damage and scuffs easily.
- Cotton is known for its soft, breathable feel and natural quality.
- Wool has great natural temperature regulation and moisture-wicking abilities. Merino wool and cashmere are varieties of wool known for their natural softness.
- Polyester, nylon and other synthetic materials help add durability and are usually cheaper than fur or suede.
✔️ Additional Features:
- Style: Slippers commonly cover the front of the foot while leaving the heel exposed, but there are other styles like clogs, slides and boat shoes. Slides are great for anyone who has warm feet but still wants support while boat shoes are great for anyone who wants their whole foot covered.
- Footbed material: EVA, or ethylene vinyl acetate, is an extremely elastic material that you can find in a lot of slippers. Memory foam is common as well, though it's more prone to wear and tear over time.
- Soles: Rubber is often used on the bottom of slippers to give traction on slick surfaces. If you're opting for a more sock-like slipper with no sole, make sure there are grippy dots or similar on the bottom.
