WHAT IS A CUBIC FOOT?

A cubic foot is a space that measures 1 foot by 1 foot by 1 foot. To determine how many cubic feet a certain piece will be multiply the length x width x height of the piece. For example, if a dresser measures 4 feet long x 2 feet wide x 5 feet high it is 40 cubic feet.

If you are measuring in inches the formula is: multiply the length in inches x width in inches x height in inches then divide by 1728 to get cubic feet. If you are measuring in centimeters the formula is: multiply each centimeter by .39 to get inches. If you are measuring in cubic meters: divide each cubic meter by 35.5 to get cubic feet.

HOW LARGE IS 100 CUBIC FEET?

To give you a rough idea of how large a 100 cubic foot space will be, measure a square on your floor that is 4 foot x 4 foot. If this space were to be stacked 6 foot high then the stack would equal 100 cubic feet (4 foot x 4 foot x 6 foot).

HOW LARGE IS 50 CUBIC FEET?

To give you a rough idea of how large a 50 cubic foot space will be, measure a square on your floor that is 4 foot x 4 foot. If this space were to be stacked 3 foot high then the stack would equal 50 cubic feet (4 foot x 4 foot x 3 foot).

WHAT IS NET / GROSS CUBIC FEET?

NET volume is the length x width x height of each piece within the shipment. GROSS volume if the length x width x height of the ENTIRE shipment once it has been palletized or crated.

HOW WILL YOU MEASURE MY SHIPMENT?

Once the shipment arrives at our warehouse we will prepare your shipment for export by either palletizing it or crating it.

Most shipments will be stacked onto a wooden base and then wrapped in thick plastic shrink-wrap. This base, called a pallet, generally measures 40 x 48 inches. Depending on the weight of your cartons the pallet can be stacked up to 72 inches high. After the items are stacked we will measure the length, width, and height of the stacked pallet at its greatest points. Do not worry, no other shipments will be stacked onto your pallet.

Shipments can also be loaded into standard shipping crates, called liftvans. If a shipment contains sofas, dressers, or other furniture items it might be a good idea to ask us to crate the shipment (there is an extra charge for crating). Each liftvan measures200 cubic feetand they are generally 7 foot long by 4 foot wide x 7 foot tall. This means if a crate is used you will be charged for 200 cubic feet, even if your shipment does not entirely fill the crate. Because you will be billed for 200 cubic feet for each crate used, we do not generally crate shipments unless requested to do so. To minimize the size of your shipment we can crate the furniture but palletize the boxes.

Every pallet and crate is then loaded into a steel ocean container for transport overseas.
