We provide curbside residential waste collection services to Whitby residents. This includes Garbage, Green bin organics, Yard waste and Special Large Item Collections. The Region of Durham provides Blue box recycling collection services. The Region also provides new and replacement green bins and blue boxes.

Where does it go and when does it get collected?

You can use the Whitby Waste Buddy tool belowtoview your waste collection schedule, set collection reminders, look up a waste item you are not sure about or schedule a Special Large Item Collection. You can even have some fun playing Whitby's Waste Sorting Game.

Waste Collection Calendar Guide2023/2024

The Town’s Waste Collection Calendar Guide is now paperless.

Residents can download their schedule from the link below or get Whitby’s Waste Buddy App to receive regular collection reminders.

For those that still want a printed copy, a small quantity is available at any Town facility.

Staff safety at the curb

Sharp items like broken glass, knives and razors blades can cause serious injury to collection staff. Help keep your staff safe, and put these sharp items in a cardboard box, tape it closed, label the box with the word “Sharp” and place it beside your regular garbage.

COVID-19 collection safety
Please help protect our waste collection staff by securely bagging all your waste (green bin organics and garbage). Please respect physical distancing and do not approach collection staff closer than two metres.
Winter collection safety
During the winter, please do not place your garbage, green bins, blue bins or special collections on snowbanks, icy patches, or on the roadway, as this could pose safety concerns to collection staff. On collection day, please place your waste on a cleared space at the end of your driveway.
