I haven’t ever made this with something other than Velveeta. Using something like cheddar will definitely change the texture of it and not give you the same creamy result. If I did use cheddar, I would probably start with 3 cups of shredded cheddar, see how it looks and add more if needed. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!

Hi, I’m on day three of tempting to make this yummy looking Mac and cheese and I keep forgetting an ingredient! Silly me. I wasn’t sure what the Pasteurized cheese meant? Also what type? I see the other comment regarding the Velveeta cheese is there another recommendation? Also what would be considered 8oz of elbow macaroni the smallest box they sell is 12oz. Do I measure out 8oz dry? Or just use the whole box? If I want to double that do I have to double everything in the recipe as well? Please let me know. Thank You

The name brand product for pasteurized cheese product is Velveeta. If you use a different cheese, the results will not be as creamy. If you can’t find an 8 oz box of macaroni, you can measure out 1 cup of uncooked macaroni. I have not tried doubling this recipe. However, if you double this recipe, you will want to double all the ingredients and use a larger slow cooker. Make sure you watch it closely the first time you make it to adjust the timing as needed. Hope that helps!

I’d like to add fresh cut up broccoli to this…would I add it at the beginning, or cook it and add it towards the end?

I haven’t tried this with fresh cut broccoli. I think when you would add it would depend on the texture you desire at the end. If you want crunchier broccoli pieces, I would add them at the end. If you want them softer, add them at the beginning. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes.

3 3/4 cups of Pasteurized processed cheese cubed, is that Velveeta cheese cubed up? And if so is that a whole block of Velverta cheese?

      Hi Raymond!

Yes, it is Velveeta. It isn’t quite a 32 oz block. Enjoy!

FAQs

Can I just throw a bunch of ingredients in the crockpot? ›

For many dishes, particularly soups and stews, you really can just throw all the ingredients in. It can be nice to cook the onions beforehand, as the flavour is different to when you put them in raw, but experiment both ways as you may find you prefer one.

Can you speed up crock pot recipes? ›

If you want to crank up the speed your recipes cook, you can turn a regular slow cooker recipe into a pressure cooking recipe. For example, 4 hours on high in a slow cooker converts to 25 to 30 minutes in a pressure cooker.

What is the difference between a slow cooker and a CrockPot? ›

However, Crockpots generally have ceramic or porcelain pots, while most slow cookers have a metal pot. As with a lot of cooking appliances, the biggest difference comes from the distribution of heat.

Is 4 hours on high the same as 8 hours on low? ›

Low: 7-8 hours to reach the simmer point. High: 3-4 hours to reach the simmer point.

What is the best meat to cook in a slow cooker? ›

Choose the right cut: Chuck roasts, short ribs, pork shoulders and lamb shanks (think fatty and tougher meats) become meltingly tender with the moist, low heat of a slow cooker. Leaner cuts like pork tenderloin tend to dry out. Likewise, dark meat chicken — thighs, drumsticks, etc.

Should meat go on top or bottom of crock-pot? ›

Slow cooker recipes have (obviously) long cook times, and it's the meat—not the carrots—that benefit from it. By placing the protein at the bottom (closest to the heating element), and vegetables at the top, you can keep your plant parts a little more toothsome, while ensuring your meat is fall-apart tender.

Is 3 hours on high the same as 6 hours on low? ›

Change cooking times depending on your schedule. One hour on HIGH generally equals two hours on LOW.

Is it better to cook a crock pot on high or low? ›

Foods take different times to cook depending upon the setting used. Certainly, foods will cook faster on high than on low. However, for all-day cooking or for less-tender cuts, you may want to use the low setting.

What happens if you slow cook on high instead of low? ›

Let's say you want to slow cook a pork roast recipe that calls for 8 hours on Low, but you need it done in much less than 8 hours. Switching to High for the sake of time savings can leave you with a roast that's dried out or even burned on the exterior, but undercooked and not at a food-safe temperature in the center.

Do you need to put water in a crock pot? ›

How much liquid do I add? Water or liquid is necessary to create steam. When cooking meat or poultry, the water or liquid level should cover the ingredients to ensure effective heat transfer throughout the crock. Some manufacturers of slow cookers recommend adding liquid to fill the stoneware 1/2 to 3/4 full.

What liquid do you put in a slow cooker? ›

To ensure the dinner cooks correctly and doesn't get soggy, decrease the amount of liquids you add. Usually only ½ to 1 cup of liquid does the trick. And, for extra flavorful results, try using liquid like broth, wine, or juice, instead of just plain water.

Is it better to cook on low or high in crock pot? ›

Foods take different times to cook depending upon the setting used. Certainly, foods will cook faster on high than on low. However, for all-day cooking or for less-tender cuts, you may want to use the low setting.

Do you put hot or cold water in a slow cooker? ›

Adding liquid to the slow cooker while in use

The cooking time should not be effected if you don't take too long. Adding cold water will slow down the cooking process so add hot water, but not boiling water.
